Instructions For Use

1) Install only in a cold engine.  Shake bottle well.  Remove radiator cap and pour the correct amount of product in per the dosage chart.  Fill radiator and reservoir / overflow tank to proper level and reinstall radiator cap.

TIP: Radiator cap may be on top of radiator, on engine, mounted on a hose, or a screw cap on the pressurized reservoir overflow tank.

2) Turn heater on hot and fan on high.  Run engine until thermostat opens or normal operating temperature is reached.  Turn vehicle off and allow engine to cool.  This may take up to 30 minutes or longer.

3) Top off radiator (add coolant as needed) and either run engine at high idle (approximately 1200 RPM’s for vehicles with a tachometer) or gently drive for 15 minutes.  Turn vehicle off and allow engine to cool.

4) Top off radiator and leave Rislone HEAD Seal Blown Head Gasket Repair in system for continued protection.  Drive vehicle as normal. Most leaks seal instantly, but some can take additional thermocycles which happen over a few days of usage.

Dosage

One bottle treats cooling systems from 9.5 liters to 19 liters.  Use ½ bottle for smaller cooling systems from 5.5 liters to 9.49 liters.  For larger systems use 1 bottle for every 19 liters of cooling capacity.  In very small systems, use 55 ml per liter of capacity.

Directions:

1. With engine off and cool, open radiator drain petcock and drain coolant into container for proper and safe disposal.

4. Refill cooling system and reservoir with manufacturer’s recommended antifreeze/water mixture. Reinstall radiator cap.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Adding to existing Engine Oil

Remove engine dipstick and check oil level. If oil is low, remove oil cap and install entire contents of the two-chamber bottle into engine crankcase.  Do not overfill. Top off with manufacturers recommended engine oil as needed. Reinstall dipstick and oil cap.  Drive/idle engine for 10-15 minutes.

Depending on the engine problem, results will either be immediate or noticeable within two days or 150 km of driving.  In engines with seriously damaged components, a second treatment may be required.  In this case, it is suggested that the oil and filter be changed, and a second application of Engine Repair be added.

Changing Oil

Instructions For Use

ENGINE OIL BURNING

There could be two possible reasons as to why your vehicle is burning engine oil. It may have an oil leak or you it could be burning oil during the ignition cycle. One common problem is if the cylinder walls are allowing oil to leak up from the bottom of the engine, past the piston and into the combustion chamber. So when the fuel ignites the oil does as well, and then expels it out as exhaust.

ENGINE OIL LEAKS

Depending on the severity of the leak, the first thing you will notice is dark brown spots underneath the front of the vehicle. The oil level will also decrease and if left long enough the oil pressure will drop and/or oil light will come on. A few other things can cause an oil leak that are not the fault of the seal or gasket. If the oil level is too high (filled over the full mark) or the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system is not functioning correctly, leaks can occur.

The common element between all of the power steering components is the fluid. The fluid touches everything inside the pump, gearbox and rack & pinion. This fluid must lubricate, cool, clean and pressurize for the system to function. In newer systems, the power steering fluid can easily perform these functions. As the vehicle ages and gains more miles, the fluid alone can’t do the job. Internally, pumps whine, gears have play in them, valves stick, seals leak and the fluid quickly breaks down. When installed, Rislone High Mileage Power Steering Repair helps to stop and prevent these problems and enhances the useful life of your power steering system. The result is smoother steering with no leaks.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Adding to existing Power Steering Fluid

Using to seal leaks—Remove power steering dipstick and check reservoir fluid level. On most vehicles, the reservoir is on or near the belt driven power steering pump. Consult owners’ manual for location if needed. If fluid is low, pour equal amounts from the two chambers into reservoir. At least half of bottle should be used. Do not overfill . Check fluid level again. Top off with manufacturer’s recommended power steering fluid as needed.

Replace dipstick and drive 5 to 10 minutes to circulate fluid.

To control slack, reduce noise & squeals, and smooth out hard & tight steering (morning sickness), the entire bottle should be used. TIP: If necessary to prevent overfilling, drain or siphon some power steering fluid from reservoir before using.

Depending on the power steering problem, results will either be immediate or noticeable within (2) days or 150 km of driving. In seriously damaged power steering systems, a second treatment may be required. In this case, it is suggested that the power steering fluid be changed and a second application of Power Steering Repair be added.

Changing Fluid

WHAT IS A POWER STEERING SYSTEM?

There Are Two Basic Types of Power Steering Systems

Gearbox (Re-circulating-Ball)

Most Rear-Wheel & 4-Wheel Drive — The gearbox contains a grooved metal shaft called a worm gear. This gear is threaded into a metal block with ball bearings between the threads to reduce friction. The block turns a pitman arm which is connected by the rods to each front wheel.

Rack & Pinion — Most Front-Wheel & All-Wheel Drive. The steering shaft connects to a pinion gear inside the metal housing. This pinion gear has teeth on it that mesh with the teeth on the rack. This rack is connected to each front wheel with the rod ends.

Steering Components

Power steering systems are combination of mechanical, hydraulic and some electrical parts.

Mechanical

Many mechanical parts are required to operate a power steering system. Some of the more important parts are steering shaft, rack & pinion or gearbox and fluid pump.

Hydraulic

INSTRUCTIONS:

Adding to existing Transmission Fluid

1. Remove transmission dipstick and check fluid level. For most vehicles this is usually done while the engine is running and the transmission is in Park. The transmission dipstick is usually located near the engine oil dipstick but further back into the engine compartment. Some vehicles do not have a normal dipstick.  For those, the product has to be added to the transmission through a fill plug.  Consult owner’s manual for location.
2. If fluid is low, pour entire contents of the two chamber bottle into the dipstick tube. Do NOT overfill.

Tip.  If necessary, to prevent overfill, drain some fluid from transmission.

3. Check fluid level again. Top off with manufacturer’s recommended transmission fluid as needed.
4. Replace dipstick and drive 10 to 15 minutes to circulate fluid.
5. Depending on transmission problem, results will either be immediate or noticeable within two days or 150 km of driving.
6. In transmissions with seriously damaged components, a second treatment may be required. In this case, it is suggested that the transmission fluid and filter be changed and a second application of Automatic Transmission Repair be added.

Changing Fluid

If using Automatic Transmission Repair when changing transmission fluid, add entire contents of bottle after filter is changed.  Then refill with manufacturer’s recommended fluid to proper level.  Drive vehicle and recheck fluid level.

DOSAGE:

One bottle is designed to treat 7 to 12 litres of fluid capacity.  On smaller systems from 4 to 6.9 litres, only use half bottle, pouring equal amounts from each side.  For larger systems use one bottle for every 9 litres of capacity.

WHAT IS A TRANSMISSION?

There are two basic types of automatic transmissions.

Transaxle / Front-Wheel Drive — The transmission is usually combined with the axles to form a transaxle.  In most front-wheel-drive vehicles, the engine is mounted sideways and  the transaxle is located under the hood with then engine.  It connects to the tires with axle shafts.

Transmission Rear-Wheel Drive — The transmission is mounted to the back of the engine and it is located underneath the center hump of the floorboard.  A driveshaft connects the transmission to the axle.

Transmission Components

Transmissions are a combination of mechanical, hydraulic and electric parts.

Mechanical

Many mechanical parts are required to operate a transmission.  Some of the more important parts are the fluid pump, valve body, clutches, bands and torque converter.  These parts work in unison with the hydraulic system.

Hydraulic

The hydraulic system uses the fluid pump to create pressure, which is controlled by the valve body.  The high pressure fluid is used to engage clutches & bands, along with cooling the transmission.

Electrical

On later-model transmissions, computer controlled electric solenoids are responsible for shifting and converter lock-up.

Instructions For Use

Dosage

• One bottle treats transmission systems from 6.5 to 10 liters of total fluid capacity

Common Transmission Issues – Symptoms / Diagnosis

No Operation – Engine runs, but vehicle does not move in drive “D” or reverse “R”. Most commonly caused by having a low fluid level, clogged filter, electrical issue, or a catastrophic mechanical failure.

Delayed Drive or Reverse – If you shift into gear and the vehicle takes longer than normal to start moving. Issues are most commonly caused by having a low fluid level, internal fluid leak, partially clogged filter, or serious transmission wear.

Shudder or Shaking – Jerky movement on takeoff or at highway speeds. This can be caused by having a low fluid level, internal fluid leak, low fluid line pressure, worn fluid, partially clogged filter, damaged clutches or chain/belt, and engine drivability issues.

Slipping – This is when the engine is revving, but power is not transferring to the tires. Most commonly caused by having low fluid level, internal fluid leak, low fluid line pressure, worn fluid, partially clogged filter, damaged clutches or chain / belt, and engine drivability issues.

No Shift to Higher / Lower Ratio – Vehicle drives but the engine RPM’s are not at usual area with the vehicle feeling like it is stuck in wrong gear. This can be caused by having an incorrect fluid level, internal fluid leak, low fluid line pressure, worn fluid, clogged filter, binding, stuck or worn internal parts, or sensor failure.

Noise – If you hear a noise when the vehicle is in park or neutral, or a new noise the vehicle did not have previously, that usually is a sign of worn internal parts.
Burning Smell – A burnt odor is usually a sign that the transmission is overheating. Fluid leaks can also cause a burning smell if they leak on the hot exhaust. The problem should be corrected before driving the vehicle further.

Leaks and Fluid Loss – External leaks can come from multiple places on a transmission. Fluid can be many colors depending on the manufacturer, including red, pink, amber, green and blue. Internal leaks are not visible, but can cause numerous problems.

Fail Safe / Limp Mode – Vehicle runs in a reduced mode of operation. The most common causes are transmission overheating or low fluid level. Other potential causes include electrical issues, failed sensor or high fluid level. Usually the check engine/transmission light will be on and a code will be set that helps diagnose the issue.

Check Engine / Transmission Light – Most newer transmissions are computer controlled and a check engine / transmission light will come on if the system detects any problems, even if you don’t notice them. These systems can be very sophisticated and the malfunction should be checked out before any serious problems can occur.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Add entire bottle of Fuel, Exhaust & Emissions Systems Cleaner into approximately 1/2 full tank car (1/4 full tank truck) of gasoline.  Drive vehicle 30 to 50 km (ideally half of these kilometers at highway speeds), and then fill up tank.  Continue to drive vehicle normally until below 1/4 tank before refueling.  Take emissions test at this time (if needed) and CEL light should be off.  Depending on the severity and length of time light has been on, it may take an extra 400 km with multiple cycles of the vehicle being started and turned off for the light to reset.  If light is still on mechanical attention is needed.

NOTE:

This bottle is designed to work in ALL gas tanks including standard, obstructed and capless (no fuel cap) systems.  If vehicle has a fuel cap make sure to reinstall tightly, as this can cause the light to be on.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

When the check engine light (CEL) or malfunction indicator light (MIL) illuminates, it has detected an engine system malfunction.  Some auto parts stores offer free on board diagnostic (OBD) code checks, and inexpensive readers are available to purchase for do it yourself (DIY) checks.  One of the most common codes is P0420 (along with related codes) for the emissions system that usually traces back to catalytic converter efficiency.  If the converter is dirty or bad, likely something else caused this.  CAT COMPLETE Fuel, Exhaust & Emissions System Cleaner not only helps with what may be causing the light to come on, but also the system that initiated the problem.  Driving with CEL on can cause increased vehicle emissions, poor fuel mileage, reduced power, further engine damage beyond what the original problem is, and could eventually lead to vehicle breakdown.  Sometimes the damage is so severe that cleaning will not help.  For example, a converter that has operated with temperatures over 700°C will start to melt inside and become permanently damaged. Or an oxygen sensor that is not dirty, but internally damaged.  Your best chance of cleaning one of these systems is within the first few months of when the light comes on.  However this formula can also work on a vehicle that has had the light on for years.  Once the issue has been resolved, the light may continue to be on for a period of time.  For some vehicles, it takes a few start/stop cycles for it to clear, others you may need to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and leave the door open, then reconnect.   See vehicle owners manual for resetting the CEL if applicable.

EMISSIONS SMOG TEST

Many provinces, territories or regions require regular emissions inspections before renewing vehicle plates or the first time registering.   During a visual inspection if there are missing or tampered emissions components, that can be an automatic failure. It also could be something simple like a missing gas cap or a cap with a bad seal.  Defective mechanical parts that have failed would be another reason.  Many times, it does not take a mechanical issue to cause a failed result on a vehicle emissions test.  If you are unsure your vehicle will pass, or maybe it barely passed the last test, we recommend a fresh oil change and emissions system cleaning with Rislone Fuel, Exhaust & Emissions System Cleaner before testing.  Other items to consider include spark plugs and fuel filter, if they are due for replacement.  This gives your vehicle the best chance of passing.

However, the use of poor quality fuel, short driving distance, cold weather, improper maintenance, and component failure can greatly increase the amount of contamination and deposits created inside these systems. INSTRUCTIONS:
Add entire bottle of Diesel DPF, Exhaust & Emissions System Cleaner into approximately 1/4 full tank truck or large SUV, (1/2 full tank for car or small to mid-size SUV) of diesel fuel. Drive vehicle (ideally in a lower gear than you normally would) for 30 to 50 kilometers. Continue to drive vehicle normally and fill tank with diesel fuel. For vehicles with extremely dirty filters, a force regeneration may now be initiated. If light is still on, second application may be required, or mechanical attention is needed.

NOTE:
This bottle is designed to work in ALL diesel tanks including those with misfuelling devices (designed to prevent gasoline from accidently being installed in diesel fuels).

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
When the check engine light (CEL) or malfunction indicator light (MIL) illuminates, it has detected an engine system malfunction. Many auto parts stores offer free diagnostic trouble code (DTC) checks using the on board diagnostic (OBD) system, and inexpensive readers are available to purchase for do it yourself (DIY) checks. One of the most common diesel codes is P242F (along with related codes) for the emissions system that usually traces back to diesel particulate filter (DPF) efficiency. If the filter is dirty or bad, likely something else caused this. DPF CLEAN™ Diesel DPF, Exhaust & Emissions System Cleaner not only helps with what may be causing the light to come on, but also the system that initiated the problem. Driving with CEL on can cause increased vehicle emissions, poor fuel mileage, reduced power, further engine damage beyond what the original problem is, and could eventually lead to vehicle breakdown. Sometimes the damage is so severe that cleaning will not help. For example, a DPF that has reached the end of its life and is full of ash. Or a sensor that is not dirty, but internally damaged. Your best chance of cleaning one of these systems is within the first few months of when the light comes on. However this formula can also work on a vehicle that has had the light on for years. Once the issue has been resolved, the light may continue to be on for a period of time. For some vehicles, it takes a few start/stop cycles for it to clear, others you may need to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and leave the door open, then reconnect. See vehicle owners manual for resetting the CEL if applicable.

CODES
PENDING CODES / SOFT CODES—Can be intermittent or historically and do not affect current vehicle performance. Most of these type of DTC codes can be reset by disconnecting the vehicle battery, or removed with an OBD scan tool.
STORED CODES / HARD CODES—Situation is happening currently so if you try to erase code it will immediately return. These are usually Permanent Diagnostic Trouble Codes (PDTC). Vehicle needs to be repaired or fault solved before code can be permanently erased.
P0470—Exhaust Pressure Sensor Malfunction and P0471—Exhaust Pressure Sensor Range / Performance codes if not repaired can cause soot blockage of the DPF.

EMISSIONS SMOG TEST
Several states or regions require regular diesel emissions inspections before renewing vehicle plates or the first time registering. This can be based on the vehicle year or GVWR. During a visual inspection if there are missing or tampered emissions components – including an OBD-II check that finds an aftermarket tune – the test can be can be an automatic failure. Smoke opacity testing is done using either snap-idle or a dyno. Defective mechanical parts that have failed would be another reason. Many times, it does not take a mechanical issue to cause a failed result on a vehicle emissions test. If you are unsure your vehicle will pass, or maybe it barely passed the last test, we recommend a fresh oil change and emissions system cleaning with Rislone Diesel DPF, Exhaust & Emissions System Cleaner before testing. Other items to consider include air and fuel filter, if they are due for replacement. This gives your vehicle the best chance of passing
